Any additional practice at home will pay off. Some ways to practice these words are: making flashcards, playing games like “go fish” or “memory match-up”, having your child practice writing the words, looking for them in magazines and newspapers, spelling them together, etc. This will really help them prepare for 1 st grade reading! The goal by the end of the year is for the students to read 90 words. ![]() Upon passing a level at school, your child will be instructed to color each part as they get 100% of the words correct. On a weekly basis, a volunteer or I will be testing the students to see if they are ready to move on to the next level. ![]() It also helps with writing.īelow, the sight words are broken into different pieces to build their ice cream sundae. We learn sight words because it helps each child become a fluent reader. It’s a colorful display and great incentive for the kids to show what they have learned. Students move on color levels based on the sight words they’ve mastered (mastery meaning they can quickly read the word without sounding out the letters). We will be starting “Sight Word Scoop Shop” high-frequency sight words in our class and for homework.
